Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI is a non-invasive, radiation-free diagnostic tool that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create exceptionally detailed 3D images of soft tissues, organs, and bones.

Winchester Hospital utilizes three high field MRI scanners, including a high field 3T magnet. Our large bore scanners have an open MRI feel accommodating larger size patients and accommodating patients who experience claustrophobia. We offer advanced MRI studies in addition to routine general cases. Examples of advanced imaging include non-invasive multiparametric high resolution imaging of the prostate gland for screening and staging of prostate cancer as well as high resolution MRI of small parts including evaluation of small joints such as fingers and toes on our 3T high field magnet.

We have an extensive musculoskeletal sports medicine MRI practice including MR Arthrography of small and large joints. We also have a robust breast MRI program for screening and staging of breast cancer patients. We offer MRCP studies as a noninvasive alternative to invasive ERCP to evaluate the gallbladder, biliary tree and pancreas. Additionally, we provide MR Angiography (MRA) evaluation of both the arterial and venous systems of the head and neck, aorta, peripheral vascular system.
